Who Am I

Adakabre Frimpong Manso is a very common name when talking about morning show host in Ghana. He is one man people admire and like when he comes face to face with politicians; he always pushes them to the wall with his questions. He started his radio presentation in the United Kingdom and was a host of a News review show on WBLS and later to Afrique.

Lawyer as he is mostly called by his close associates, was with a firm of Solicitors covering Specialization in Immigration Law in the UK. He later decided to move to Ghana and the whole idea was to set up an immigration practice to help people acquire quality immigration issues such that when they go to the UK they do not encounter documentation at the home office.

His love for radio shot up again and so he started from Fox FM and Mercury respectively in Kumasi and was finally employed by Aero communication Limited (Adom FM) in April 2003 and he took over the morning show baton from Kwabena Kwakye currently with Oman FM. He worked very hard and his morning show was among the best morning shows in the capital till Monday October 24, 2005 when he decided to bid them farewell and resign from office.

Adakabre took another step in life and he landed at the Adabraka based radio station, Hot 93.9 FM a subsidiary of F.P Communications Limited. Their morning show “Maakye” has a different trend of presentation as compared to the other morning shows. They start with the morning news and then review what is in the papers for 30minutes, sports crew follows with their sports presentation and then they bring to fore what is happening in Ghana in the morning. They tackle the districts and focus more on Sex offences, Crime in general, Road accident, Unemployment, Human Rights abuses, Abuse of Administration Justices and link all these issues to the political underpinnings or terrain. These issues are mainly from the Regions, Districts and Local communities. They choose resource people who are linked to the issues and these people are not always on the panel exception of Ntim Barima who always summarizes the issues at stake.

Adakabre does not practice his law here in Ghana because he still has to go through the Ghana Law School before he can be called on to the Bar. He doubles as the General Manager for Hot FM and is in charge of the administration and the day to day activities including H/R, Marketing and Programming.

His final words to his listeners through the Weekly Fylla is “Radio as I understand it in our current setting is to be used to articulate issues that affects us in our everyday life especially where the perception is that the rich and the well connected can always have their way over the poor and the vulnerable. In the circumstance Hot FM is the voice of the Voiceless”
