We will meet violence with violence in 2012 elections – Ken Agyepong

February 18, 2012 No Comments

Assin North MP Kennedy Agyapong has told a mammoth rally of the opposition New Patriotic Party in Accra to ?meet violence with violence? in the December 2012 general elections. He charged the crowd of NPP supporters at the Mantse Agbonaa rally on Saturday afternoon that: “If anyone hits you once and you are left standing, hit back three times”.

He described the ruling NDC and the Mills Administration as “thieves” who are milking the nation dry.

The harsh-talking Assin North MP urged party supporters to participate fully in the forthcoming biometric registration exercise.

His colleague MP for Asokwa, Maxwell Kofi Jumah who recently launched a vitriolic attack on journalists by describing them as “stupid fools and useless people” said at the rally that: “Anyone who voted for Mills in the 2008 elections should pray for forgiveness” for inflicting what he described as an “inefficient government” on the people of Ghana.

He said “roads are not being built because all the money has been given to one individual” – an apparent reference to the controversial 51 million Ghana cedis judgment debt paid to Business man Alfred Woyome.

He said the 51 million Ghana cedis judgment debt paid to Mr Woyome is just the tip of the iceberg since the money paid to Woyome for 2011 is yet to be revealed.

The National Youth Organiser of the Party, Anthony Karbo reiterated the need for the party’s youth to live up to the ?All-die- be- die? slogan of their Flagbearer Nana Akufo Addo.

Nana Addo, last year, urged the party supporters to be courageous and not kowtow ‘to fear and violence from the NDC.

Mr Karbo said the 2012 election is “our election, our future, our destiny” and “it will be fought with all the seriousness it deserves”. He said “Nana Addo will not be a punching bag for anybody in the 2012 elections”, warning that “we will be combative, aggressive and fearless” in the forthcoming elections”.

“No political party will declare the 2012 elections. If anybody does that the NPP will give them an appropriate response. The EC is the only body mandated to declare elections”.

He urged the party supporters to be vigilant against the ?enemy? which he said was the ruling NDC. Mr Karbo however explained that the party?s flagbearer?s ?all-die-be-die? slogan is not an incitement to violence but rather a call for courage and vigilance in the forthcoming elections.

Young NPP Lawyer, Mike Ocquaye Jnr accused the NDC government of complicity in the Woyome judgment debt. He said the government was trying to use certain public servants named in the Woyome saga as scapegoats instead of going after the people who were responsible for the payment of the 51 million cedis judgment debt despite the contrary orders of the President.

He said unlike President Mills, Nana Akufo Addo would never have tolerated the payment of the money to Mr Woyome.

Ayawaso Central MP, Sheikh I C Quaye, said: “The NDC are mad; they are fighting amongst themselves…they are thieves”.

He said: “The NPP will show the red card to anyone who dares steal victory from Nana Akufo Addo”.

General Secretary of the Party, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie said “the NDC are planning to rig the 2012 elections”.

He also urged the Party’s supporters to ensure that all their friends and relatives participate fully in the biometric voter registration which starts from March 24.

He said: “no amount of allegations and accusations against President Mills and the NDC can win us the 2012 elections if you don?t get registered”.

Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament and MP for Dome-Kwabenya, Prof. Mike Ocquaye said he was optimistic the party will win at least 16 constituencies in the region.

Nana Akufo Addo’s Campaigner Manager, Boakye Agyarko who described his boss as the next president told the teeming crowd that Saturday marked the last day of the flagbearer’s listening tour.

He said the nationwide tour revealed how the NDC and the Mills administration had plundered the State’s coffers, describing the NDC and the Mills administration as “thieves”.

He said the tour revealed there was massive unemployment, inability of parents to pay school fees and the destruction of all the social mitigation interventions bequeathed to the Mills administration by the Kufuor administration in 2009.
