Woyome saga could crumble NDC and government-Kofi Adams
January 27, 2012 No CommentsDeputy General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kofi Adams has cautioned his party to come out strongly to condemned the controversial judgment debts awarded to NDC financier Alfred Agbesi Woyome.
According to him, some faceless individuals have resorted to using the party?s name to engage in their hideous crimes which has the tendency of sending the NDC back into opposition.
Kofi Adams was commenting on the GHS 58million judgement debt awarded to Alfred Woyome following an abrogation of a contract he won by the erstwhile Kufuor administration to build stadia prior to the CAN 2008 football tournament.
The Woyome saga has brought government business to a standstill since most of the government officials spent time defending government position on the matter. The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has however, capitalized on the issue and has even composed a song to propagate the massive corruption in the Mills-led government.
In an interview with Adakabre Frimpong Manso host of Adom FM?s Dwaso Nsem Friday, Kofi Adams noted that the action of some party officials if not curtailed could be detrimental to the NDC electoral fortunes in the December polls.
He said some people go for NDC party cards to use as a shield to defraud the state hence issued a note of warning to people who have planned to use the name of the ruling party to claim judegment debts to desist from it.
Kofi Adams who also doubles as the spokesperson for former president Jerry John Rawlings decried the politicization of the Woyome saga adding that it could prevent justice from being served.
The Deputy General Secretary of the NDC said the issue must be looked at holistically devoid of politics to help bring all the people found culpable to book.
Kofi Adams stated that government must also get its act to together to look into the issues.
Meanwhile, the 2010 audit report says over GHS600 million was paid to individuals and organization as judgement debt with the 2011 report indicating another GHS200 million was paid in judgement debts.
