Prez Mills’ reshuffle is jobs for the boys – Sekou Nkrumah
January 26, 2012 No CommentsMaverick politician Dr.Sekou Nkrumah says Wednesday’s ministerial reshuffle by President John Evans Atta Mills was simply a case of jobs for the boys.
According to Sekou, the reshuffle by the President is just to please people who sacrificed for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) when in opposition and not based on competence.
The much hyped ministerial reshuffling was on Wednesday done with three ministers losing their jobs.
Health Minister, Joseph Yieleh Chireh, Deputy Volta Regional Minister Cyril Neku and Information Minister John Tia lost their jobs as ministers.
Acting Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Dr Benjamin Kunbour has been made the substantive AG, while Works and Housing Minister Alban Sumana Bagbin takes over the Health Ministry.
ET Mensah goes to the Works and Housing Ministry while Mr Lee Ocran is taking over the Education Ministry. Mr. Fritz Baffour is heading to the Information Ministry with Mr. William Kwesi Aboah taking over from Dr Kunbour as Interior Minister.
The Upper West Region gets Alhaji Amin Sulemana as the new regional minister while Mr Dominic Azembe Azumah goes to the Presidency as a Minister of State.
The Member of Parliament for Mfatseman West, Mr Thomas Aquinas is the Deputy Central Regional Minister-designate and MP for Nabdam, Mr Moses Asaga replaces ET Mensah as Employment and Social Welfare Minister-designate.
President Mills also made a number of Deputy Ministerial appointments.
However, speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Wednesday, Dr. Sekou Nkrumah insisted the ministerial reshuffle would not have any impact on the non-performing Mills-led administration ahead of this year’s general elections.
He said ministers would not be moved from one ministry to the other if indeed they are competent and capable of delivering on the Better Ghana Agenda promise.
The son of Ghana’s first president believes the move by President Mills is bad leadership style adding that ministerial appointments should be based on competence and not to please party loyalists.
“As Ghanaians we should be concerned about why the president is moving people up and down” he lamented.
Dr. Sekou Nkrumah admonished the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) flag-bearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo not to repeat the mistakes of President Mills by making foot soldier appointment when voted as president.
