Father for all is dividing Nkrumah’s children – Sekou Nkrumah
January 27, 2012 No CommentsSon of Ghana’s first president Dr. Sekou Nkrumah says he feels slighted about government refusal to invite him to the unveiling of the statue in honor of his father, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah at the forecourt of the newly constructed AU building in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Sekou Nkrumah believes his critic of the performance of the Mills-led administration necessitated such a decision by government but said he remains unperturbed about such political vindictiveness.
His outcry is on the premise of an invitation by government to two of his siblings, Dr. Francis Nkrumah and Samia Nkrumah, Chairperson of the Convention People Party (CPP) to join President John Evans Atta Mills to unveil a statue in honour of their father for the leading role he played in the African liberation struggle as well as the Pan Africans Movement.
President Mills who leaves Accra today for Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to attend the 18th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Governments of the African Union is the guest of honour at the unveiling of the statue of Ghana?s first president Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
The president invited Dr. Francis Nkrumah, and Madam Samia Nkrumah, Chairperson of the CPP, to join him in the unveiling of the statue in honor of their father.
President Mills is also expected to deliver the keynote address on the theme “Boosting Intra-African Trade”.
But, Sekou Nkrumah on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Thursday, accused President Mills of creating a wedge between himself (Sekou) and his siblings hence feels alienated in his own family.
“I thought it was the very same President Mills who said he would the father of all Ghanaians but now the father of all Ghanaians is dividing the children of Nkrumah”.
He explained that the constant recognition of his siblings by government are all attempts to frustrate and discredit him as Nkrumah’s son.
“It is not President Mills or the NDC that would recognize me as Nkrumah’s son. I am Nkrumah’s son whether they like it or not and I care less going to any AU function”.
Dr. Nkrumah recounted a similar incident at The Founder’s Day to commemorate the birthday of his late father where according to him after a rather late invitation, he was directed to sit in the public whiles his elder siblings sat on the podium.
The political maverick who was dismissed as acting National Coordinator of the National Youth Council asserted that President Mills used him for his political gains and damped him when he became critical of his (Mills) non-performing government.
“I am surprise about this particular about President Mills. “He has forgotten that among all Nkrumah’s children it was Sekou who stood by his side, campaign for him and made sure he won and become President of Ghana long other in the NDC “.
“Today the Sekou whom you recognized as the son of Nkrumah then because he (Mills) was using me for his political gains is no longer son of Nkrumah because am supporting the opposition leader Nana Akufo-Addo? he stated.
Sekou Nkrumah remains resolute stating that ?”will continue to stand and fight for the interest of Ghanaians until we get a leadership that is not petty not hypocritical and will see all Ghanaians as one irrespective of our party colours”.
